from a Biblical Perspective
Dojos of the Risen Son is a Christian based martial arts system, in Michigan, that teaches an eclectic style based on traditional Karate. It is a martial art that teaches the practitioner techniques using the hands and feet for any defensive situation, regardless of age, size, or gender. These techniques are taught under the philosophy of respecting peace and justice. Karate teaches practitioners the attitude of self-discipline to defend oneself and never to attack or harm others. Spiritual discipline is as important as physical discipline. Therefore, Bible scripture is incorporated in the class and rankings of the school. Most karate programs have a code of conduct. Dojo’s of the Risen Son’s code is firmly rooted in Christianity.
Geoffrey R. Spohn
Kaiso Geoffrey R. Spohn is the founder & headmaster of Tatsu Te Ryu Karate Systems, a modern, blended system/style/ryu-ha of Budo. Kaiso Spohn started his martial arts journey in 1982 and holds master level black belt ranking in multiple martial arts disciplines, but continues to train and expand his knowledge . Currently, Kaiso is studying under Hanshi Robert Handley in Shotokan Karate-Do, under Hanshi Darel Chase in Sentou Ryu Aikijujitsu, Goshinjutsu, Shorin Ryu Karate-Do, and is training with Master Andy Pendexter in Taekwondo and Tactical Hapkido, and under GM Dr. Donald Miskel in the art of Black Lotus Kempo Ryu Jujutsu.
On a personal and academic level, Kaiso Spohn is a licensed minister, registered with the National Assoc of Christian Ministers and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education. Professionally he works as a Community Corrections Officer with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and is the head instructor for the Shinko Budokan Dojo and West Michigan Karate Academy.
